Through various symbolic exhibitions such as ICFF, New York Design Week has been dedicated to reflecting the real design conditions in daily life and displaying the latest design trend to design industry and design lovers.

However, It is just“go through the motions”if Design Week is regarded another “Name Card”to display the image of a city. London came up with the idea of taking the creative industry as its core industry to develop in 1997 and held the initial “Design Festival”in 2003. Thanks to London's strength to call the resources of the whole city, the whole country and the whole world, the London Design Festival achieved a rapid influence in the industry. Liu Boying, the director of the Industrial Development Office under Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology(Creativity and Design Industrial Development Office), emphasized “ Shanghai Design Week focuses on one core and multi-point layout. The main exhibition hall is aguidance, a display and a replication. Such a stage aims to deepen citizens’understanding towards the importance of design: design can improve, beautify, optimize and maximize the quality of our life.”

Shanghai, like a magnet, is attractive to creative individuals of the whole country and even the whole world with all kinds of different ideas blended and erupted here. The government and industry has realized the importance of creative industries. And Chinese design, suffering from much criticism and going through bittersweet experiences, is on the rise.
