Inventory on the Technological Elements of the Shanghai Design Biennale 2016

Release time:2016-10-11 16:56

The Shanghai Design Biennale 2016 had come to an end recently. In this Biennale, the intelligent container rubber-tyred gantry crane model, the VR technology, the intelligent street lamp and some tiny pretty design items of various innovative technological elements had dazzled the viewers’ eyes.
The Hercules machine, the intelligent container rubber-tyred gantry crane model, developed by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., is even lighter and smarter than any other kind of gantry cranes, which can be applied to multiple terrains and shapes of cargo. With the combination of the gyrocompass instruments and the satellite navigation technology, it can achieve the function of automatic deviation correction and laser column positioning.
The VR (Virtual Reality) technology has greatly drawn people’s attention in recent years. In Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, the reporter put on the VR eyepatch, drove an automatic-shift car and truly experienced the VR simulated driving swerve on a virtual road. The exhibition booth staff told the reporter that the VR technology had showed extraordinary effects in the industries such as automobile manufacturers, driving training and so on. Many drivers’ schools had added the VR simulated road test course into their training courses, which had won some favorable comments from the driving students.
Besides the virtual drive, the VR technology can also be applied to the experience of house purchase. In the GINSUN booth, this technology is called interactive VR model house. The house purchaser can visit the house and learn the details of the house without coming over to the scene. In the personalization aspect, the VR interactive technology can flash-change the decoration of the model house. The users cancustom-make the furniture in one touch, switch the wallpaper, change the partitions and so on. “In this way the customer can feel the spatial distribution and the object distance of the house in person and it will be easier for the real estate agency to work. The VR model house takes only 15 days to accomplish, which will greatly cut down the marketing costs.” said the exhibition staff.
This Design Biennale has also embodied the antecedent industrial design concept of the Intelligent City in many other aspects. The Intelligent City mainly focus on the intelligent response towards the needs of the people’s livelihood, the environmental protection, the public security, the city service and the industrial and commercial activities by putting the sensing devices into the urban communal facilities with the big data.
In the exhibition, “The Edison Cup” College Students Intelligent City Industrial Design Competition, organized by Shanghai International Science And Technology Exchange Center, GE Energy Group and UnionTech, was held in the Exhibition Center Hall. The students were required to independently design an intelligent street lamp, which can simultaneously contain the functions of road lighting, environmental sensing and clean energy within a prescribed time. The eventual designed works for competition will be printed out by a 3D printer and applied to the design application of the Intelligent City. Seven students’teams, which were from Fudan University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Second Polytechnic University and Shanghai Mechanical And Electrical College, had taken part in the design of this intelligent street lamp.
“For example, in the sensing range of this intelligent street lamp, if the object is set still for more than half an hour, the lamp will automatically scan this object, analyze whether it contains some hazardous materials and transmit the data to the control center for the supervision staff to handle.” said the booth staff, the intelligent street lamp has a powerful function while it will not consume more energy than the common lamp. Moreover, it adopts the distributed clean energy, which is highly-efficient and environmental-friendly.
Furthermore, there were some tiny pretty design items “catching the eyes”. In the booth of Shanghai Second Polytechnic University, a model named “E-bike” had attracted the people’s eyes. It was an electric bicycle independently designed by the students, which was collapsible and light. It can also use the static electricity generated in the course of riding as its energy; The PER Design Group had introduced a new concept pet raising box. The box had gained favor from the pet lovers by its elegant shape and convenient function.
Han Yan, Minister of Cooperation and Exchange Department of Shanghai International Science And Technology Exchange Center, said the Biennale would be open not only to the professional industry players, but also to the non- professional public. “By attending our exhibition, the ordinary people can closely feel and learn the innovative technologies and support our innovative work. This would be the most expected thing we like to see.”
