The "East + West" originates from the integration and collision of eastern and western cultures. The "East + West" International Design Week aims to achieve exchange and collision of eastern traditional culture and western modern culture and build an exchange and communication platform for design culture and design education as far as possible. As a thoroughfare to nine provinces, Wuhan is a place where China's eastern and western cultures are converged and will play an increasingly important role in eastern and western economic and cultural collisions in future.

　　So far, the "East + West" International Design Week has been successfully held for five times in ten years. In the fifth "East + West" International Design Week opened on December 18, 2016, apart from the original poster design competitions, exhibitions and activities of three categories, i.e. illustration art, font design and packaging design, were newly added.

　　The activity this time is cosponsored by Publicity Department of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee of the CPC, Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and Hubei Provincial Artists Association and jointly hosted by Department of Design of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Art Museum of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and Wuhan Art Paper and Plastics Packaging Co., Ltd. In this time, design works of four categories, i.e. poster design, illustration art, font design and packaging design are exhibited. The designers embody the exchange and collision between eastern traditional culture and western modern culture in their works here and thus "build a platform for wide communication of design culture and design education and promote vigorous development of major of art design in higher education of China jointly". The relevant responsible person of sponsors says that the activities of Biennial Exhibition of "East + West" International Design Week has attracted many excellent designers and students, abroad and at home, and has good influence and popularity in the field of international design culture and design education.
