Meeting held to draw collective wisdom and compile Wuhan’s application documents

A meeting on the compiling of Wuhan’s application documents for UNESCO City of Design designation was held by Publicity Department of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee on 24st, October. Leaders from Publicity Department of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee, Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Commission, Wuhan Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and other government bodies attended the meeting.

The meeting started with a publicity film, followed by a report from Sun Ming, Director of the Application Office on the current work and challenges in the application process .
　　
Dr. Ding Yuan, expert from ICOMOS Wuhan (International Council on Monuments and Sites, Wuhan) shared three views: firstly, application documents should be broken down into smaller tasks and assigned to responsible departments. Secondly, policy support from the municipal government is needed in the application work. We need to send the message of building a city of design and sustainable development. The materials collected should be people-oriented and wide-ranged as each City of Design city highlights the uniqueness and origin of its design. Thirdly, it is better to submit the application in April to allow time for revision as UNESCO will introduce new criteria at the beginning of 2017. In addition, a maximum of four URL links to the Internet sites related to the contents of the application are required in the application form, thus related materials such as texts, audio-visual materials and images are appreciated. The deadline for materials submission is 10^th, November.

It was clarified in this meeting that the materials collected should underline Wuhan’s design strength in engineering and industry, as well as cultural events with other Cities of Design members. The materials should be comprehensive, fleshed out and in the forms of texts, photo, audio or video. Designated staff will select and compile the documents.

Relevant trade associations and institutes will be included in the compiling of the documents, enriching the content of application materials.

Active participation of all members in delivering reliable, comprehensive and accurate documents is appreciated. Activities should be organized accordingly. Contact persons and person in charge should be designated and kept in touch timely, said Wu Tianyong , Associate Counsel of the Publicity Department of Municipal Party Committee.
