[9.5.7] "Boundless Series" of International Exchange for Cultural Heritage Protection

  In order to enhance international awareness and international image of Wuhan Municipality, as well as its soft strengthen and cultural influence in global competition in the future, ICOMOS Shared Cultural Heritage Research Center(Wuhan)/Wuhan Research Center of Shared Cultural Heritage (ICOMOS-WRCSBH) began to organize "boundless series" of cultural heritage protection activities in 2011. The term "boundless" means trans-boundary communication and cooperation among various international and domestic departments and fields involving in "cultural heritage" . The project aims to create high-end international academic forum and international exchange activities by extensive participation of professional international organizations, to open the window of Wuhan to the world (Particularly UNESCO and ICOMOS, and teaching and scientific research fields in the major of protection of world cultural heritage). Moreover, "boundless series" will also open "boundless classroom" through universities and research institutes, organize civil "boundless salon" and "boundless walk" and so on, in order to enhance public awareness of cultural heritage protection in Wuhan, and realize extensive participation of people from all walks of life.

  In the past 5 years, by organizing international forum and related activities (e.g. boundless walk, boundless salon, boundless dialogue), "boundless series" of cultural heritage protection activities have built a cultural heritage protection research and practice platform across countries, regions, universities, industries and disciplines in local and international levels. The annual event of "ICOMOS-Wuhan" boundless forum, while advertising Wuhan to the world, thoroughly explores the methods and approaches for regional cultural heritage protection in the context of globalization and integration by interregional and interdisciplinary cooperation and exchange. So far, five "ICOMOS-Wuhan" boundless forums have been organized with great success, with the themes of "intercultural architectural heritage protection", "engineering-culture-landscape", "university versus city", "cultural heritage and creative city (And International Forum on Thousands Miles Tea Road Application for World Cultural Heritage)", and "cultural heritage amidst urban renewal"; experts of international fame from Germany, France, Belgium, Australia, USA, Cnada, Japan etc(Inc. former chairman of international Planning Association, the chairman of ICOMOS, former deputy director of UNESCO, the chairman of RAYMOND LEMAIRE International Protection Center, et al), gathered together with domestic experts in related fields, fully exchanged ideas about hot-spot issues in the field of cultural heritage; each forum has drawn extensive attention of social media; since 2015, experts from UNESCO and various countries and regions around the world have been invited to attend "ICOMOS-Wuhan" boundless forum to discuss the role of cultural heritage in sustainable development of creative city in light of application of Wuhan as "Design Capital" and "World Heritage" with UNESCO.
