In late October 2016, “Approaching Africa - China Wuhan Engineering Design Exhibition in South Africa” was held successfully in Johannesburg, South Africa, which was organized by Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Commission, and undertaken by Promotion Center of Wuhan City of Design. The trip to Africa has been fruitful and laid an important foundation for Wuhan senior staff's successful visits to Africa.

　　The opening ceremony of “Approaching Africa - China Wuhan Engineering Design Exhibition in South Africa” and the “Economic and Trade Fair for Wuhan Approaching South Africa” were held successfully.

　　The opening ceremony of “Approaching Africa - China Wuhan Engineering Design Exhibition in South Africa” and the “Economic and Trade Fair for Wuhan Approaching South Africa” which were held in Johannesburg on October 24 were attended by 150 politicians and businessmen and representatives from design industry, including Mr. Schiff (Assistant Minister of Ministry of Industry and Trade of South Africa), Mr. Matt Sabah, Ms. Joann (President of Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce), Mr. Navano (Deputy director of Richard Bay Economic Development Zone), Mr. Gao Shi (Chairman of the Tribal Leadership Council of South Africa) and Rong Yansong (Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China in South Africa).

　　The meeting was conducted in the form of "exhibition" and "meeting". The exhibition was displayed in the form of picture exhibition. There were 32 pictures introducing Wuhan or showing Wuhan's engineering design enterprises' projects in Africa.

　　The event has strengthened exchanges and cooperation between Wuhan's engineering design enterprises and enterprises and institutions in the field of construction in South Africa, enabling local enterprises to gain an insight into the strength and performance of Wuhan's engineering design. It has played a good role in promoting for Wuhan design to strive for greater market in Africa.

　　Wuhan's design enterprises participated in a series of economic and trade activities of the Municipal Economic and Trade Group, and a number of cooperation were reached.

　　During the exhibition, the Architectural and Urban Planning Design & Research Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan and the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa reached the intention of building the school of urban planning.

　　Wuhan Trade Promotion Council and Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of bilateral cooperation, reaching a consensus on import and export, investment, business information exchange and other aspects.

　　During the visit to South Africa, the delegation visited Lebonny Masosa, the vice mayor of Bloemfontein. On the special exchange forum of enterprises in two cities, China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. and Bloemfontein conducted an initial exchange on the urban rail construction projects, and agreed to send professionals to Bloemfontein to discuss about the project details later.

　　On October 25th, the economic and trade delegation visited Kenya, and China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. and WISDRI Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited carried out project promotion on "Wuhan - Kenya Enterprise Forum". Wuhan Free Trade City · Global Commodity Procurement Center and iKapaMedia East Africa. Ltd reached an intention of cooperation. The FTA will build the African Pavilion, providing sales channels for African commodities.

　　Uganda’s new DRI plant and supporting biomass power plant owner made a special trip from Uganda to Kenya, and carried out project negotiation with WISDRI, and formally commissioned WISDRI to carry out pre-feasibility study on the above project.

　　Wuhan Trade Promotion Council and Kenya Investment Authority reached an intention to sign a memorandum of cooperation, which would be formally signed later.

　　During the visit, on the one hand, we had a better understanding of the economic and social development in Africa through a series of activities; on the other hand, we also publicized and promoted Wuhan's investment environment, trade projects and engineering design strength to African countries, promoted the popularity of Wuhan in Africa, set up a multi-channel and multi-level bilateral cooperation platform among the government, Chamber of Commerce and enterprises, promoted Wuhan’s cooperation in engineering design and construction project with the entire African region, with South Africa as a bridge, and broadened the channels and laid a solid foundation for Wuhan’s enterprise’s development in Africa in the future.
