Release time:2017-09-08 15:52

The 4th ICOMOS-Wuhan Crossover Forum on "Creative Cities & Cultural Heritage", which was organized by ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Shared Built Heritage (ICOMOS ISC-SBH) in cooperation with Wuhan University, Wuhan Municipal Government, and Hubei Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, was held at Wuhan University from November 1st to 4th, 2015. Mr. Wan Yong, Mayor of Wuhan, Mr. Li Xiaohong, President of Wuhan University, Mr. Li Chaobin, Director of Hubei Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, and Prof. James Reap, executive member of ICMOS attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was hosted by Ms. Liu Yingzi, Deputy Mayor of Wuhan. Over 100 people attended the forum. These people include senior professor Ruan Yisan from Tongji University, senior professor Feng Tianyu from Wuhan University, and other experts and scholars from Wuhan University, Tongji University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology; experts and scholars from United States, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Australia, and Japan; and experts and scholars from the governments and administrations of cultural heritage of the cities along the long tea road.

In his speech, Li Chaobin pointed out that cities are the carrier of human civilizations. A city gathers and reveals the "genes", "veins", and achievements in the development of human civilizations. As urbanization accelerates, how to properly handle the relationship between a city's sustainable development and the protection of cultural heritage in the city has become a big concern that the international community needs to approach. According to Li Chaobin, the sharing of information and exchange of ideas between governments and academic community with regard to urban development and the protection of cultural heritage serve to provide spiritual guidance required for common progress of mankind. This aligns with the economic and social development philosophy featuring "openness and sharing" that has been proposed during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period in China. Under the theme of "Creative Cities & Cultural Heritage", this forum plays an important role in serving to work out solutions with the insights of experts and scholars from various countries.

At the forum, 15 experts and scholars such as prof. Ruan Yisan, prof. Feng Tianyu, Prof. James Reap, and Wang Fengzhu (Deputy Director of Hubei Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage) delivered 15 speeches, including "Keeping the Nostalgia Alive: a Return to Cultural Hometown amid the New Normal", "A Typical Case of the Modern Transformation of Cities - On Wuhan 's World Cultural Heritage Application", "Creative Cities, Sustainable Development and World Heritage: ICOMOS Guiding Policies", and "Hubei 's World Cultural Heritage and Its World Cultural Heritage Application Strategy". These speeches created a favorable academic atmosphere for the forum.

The crossover forum had been held three times from 2012 to 2014.
