[9.6.9]Out-of-school Educational Activity Center of Wuhan Primary and Secondary Schools

  The Out-of-school Educational Activity Center of Wuhan Primary and Secondary Schools is a key educational project approved by the Municipal Education Bureau (W.J.F. [2007] No.23) and initiated by the Municipal Development and Reform Commission (W.F.G.S.H.[2007]No.712). This Center is located at the Boquan Farmland in Dongxihu District of Wuhan City, being benefited by beautiful mountains, rivers and the natural ecosystem of Jiazi Mountain. This center occupies 248 mu of lands and the total building area is over 30000 m², including three vocational education and adult education training bases. This center is the largest out-of-school educational activity center in Central China, being capable of providing adult trainings and teacher trainings for over 300 trainees or accommodating 3500 students for one time.

 

  This activity center insists to utilize practices to educate people comprehensively. To this end, it has been committed to improving out-of-school practical education and promoting activity curriculums. This activity center has established ten theme activity areas including the Traffic Safety City, Military Training and Shooting Range, High-altitude Training Camp, Technological and Environmental Protection Station, Practice Area for Learning Agricultural Production, Patriotic Education Exhibition Hall, DIY Dream Factory, Natural Ecological Corridor, Picnic & Barbecue Area, and Animation City.

 

  This activity center provides the vastest activity space, the most natural training environment and the most innovative teaching courses. It has taken the lead in integrating education with practices dynamically. It also developed thematic education programs for primary and secondary students, including the out-of-school national defense and military education, moral education, popularization of science, environmental protection, learning of agricultural production, life safety & hands-on practices and law dissemination. All of those initiatives have helped students to foster the ideal and faith, temper moral traits, cultivate behavioral habits, improve the scientific quality, develop hobbies and promote the comprehensive quality. Therefore, those activities are beneficial to the sustainable development of the out-of-school quality-oriented education for primary and secondary students. This activity center represents an important initiative of practically implementing the spirit of official documents such as Several Opinions of the CPC Central Committee on Strengthening and Improving Moral Education in Schools, Outline of the Ministry of National Education on the Curriculum Reform of Elementary Education, and the Implementation Opinions of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and Wuhan People’s Government on Strengthening and Improving Ideological & Moral Education of Juveniles.

 

  Wuhan Occupational Education & Adult Education Training Base mainly provides occupational trainings, on-the-job trainings and adult ability improvement trainings for graduates of advanced vocational schools, junior colleges and secondary technical schools before their employment, primary and secondary school teachers, as well as employees, teachers and educational administrative cadres of enterprises and public institutions. Trainings of etiquette and communication, career planning, stress management and emotional control are provided within the occupational training area. Experience exchanges are carried out within the teacher training area, and trainings of adult ability development and teamwork skills are organized within the outdoor development area. All those are helpful to facilitate the reform and development of vocational education and adult education in Wuhan City. Those activities are helpful to improve the quality of workers comprehensively and to promote the employment and reemployment, which is very important to develop a learning society.
