Relation between Creative Design Industry and Tourism and Leisure Industry in Wuhan

  With the advancement of the society and the improvement of people's standard of living, the creative design industry develops rapidly in recent years. Tourism is a highly correlative and developmental industry, and the tourist attraction, which is the subject of the tourism industry, and the development of tourist products are the important elements having an impact on the development of tourism industry, while the characteristics of creative design industry, e.g. high added value, strong integration, high brand influence and permanent updating, will provide new points of increase in the development of tourism industry. The relation between creative design and tourism industry is now described as follows:

  I. Relationship between creative design and tourism industry

  In short, creative design is composed of two parts: creativity and design, i.e. it is a process or result that the creative thinking and idea are extended, displayed and explained in the form of design. The tourism industry is a collection of departments or enterprises of products and services in terms of food, shelter, transportation, traveling, shopping and recreation required by tourists in the process of tourism. Creative design is an accumulation of culture, which is an industry of creating wealth and offering job opportunities through the formation and application of intellectual property rights, e.g. advertisements, films and animations. There is an inextricable relationship between creative design and tourism industry, both of which are mutually supplemented and promoted.

  (1) The creative design industry gives impetus to the development of the tourism industry.

  Firstly, the creative design industry creates new tourism resources and products. The traditional tourism industry mainly relies on natural resources and cultural resources, but the products created by or derived from the creative design industry can always become new tourism resources. For example, a movie theme park which takes filming as its main tourism attraction can present an artificial dream world for tourists, so it is easily accepted by tourists.

  Secondly, creative design changes and deepens the traditional tourism products. The tourism performance projects, such as Impression Lijiang, Impression Liu Sanjie and ZHIYINHAO, which are the creative transformation of singing and dancing performance based on the local and traditional culture and integrate science and technology, arts and culture, etc., can greatly increase the attraction of original tourism products.

  Thirdly, creative design improves the significance of tourist commodities. The traditional tourist commodities are designed according to the local specialty resources, so the design thinking is restricted. If the cultural and creative elements are contained, the significance and attraction of original commodities will be enhanced. For example, many souvenirs, including complementary food, food, toys, post cards and small accessories, can be derived from the movie and television industry; a variety of souvenirs containing musical elements can be developed from the music industry.

  (2) The tourism industry also promotes the development of the creative design industry.

  Firstly, the tourism industry can extend the chain of creative design industry. The creative design industry highlights the design stage and creative stage, but after the design of products, they are not completely utilized. The tourism industry can change the creative design products into different theme parks, e.g. music park and animation park, to maximize the tourism value of creative design and extend the industrial chain.

  Secondly, the tourism industry can expand the market space of creative design industry. The tourism industry can bring about plenty of tourists, so the market range of sales of the creative design industry can be expanded. Especially, tourists can contact designers on the site of cultural creative industry park to make a good interaction and communication and promote the sales of creative design products.

  Thirdly, the tourism industry is beneficial to the generation of creative design. Creativity requires an interaction and communication with people and the tourism industry brings about a great number of tourists, providing artists and designers for more opportunities and inspiration of stimulating creativity.

  II. Ways of Development

  According to the characteristics and relationship between creative design and tourism industry, both of the two industries must be integrated for purposes of faster and better development of these industries. We will mainly advance the integration and development of the creative design industry and the tourism industry in the following ways.

  Firstly, the relevant contents and links of the creative design industry will be transformed into tourism resources for development. The tourism resources and other resources will be scientifically and reasonably reconfigured and the value of resources will be explored through creativity for the purpose of transforming into modern tourism resources. For example, the construction of tourist streets adopts the method of resource integration of Cao Yong. Tanhualin Street, Religious Culture Street (Zhongnan Road), Hanyangzao Street and Wuhan Planning & Exhibition hall, etc. in Wuhan are the excellent cases of construction of tourist streets and scenic spots based on creative design.

  Secondly, the method of interactive marketing between literary and artistic works and tourist attractions will be adopted to integrate literary and artistic elements in the process of tourism marketing communication so as to increase the charm of marketing; meanwhile, the publicity of cultural resources by tourist attractions will be reinforced so as to realize the effect of mutual promotion. Taking Jianghan Chaozong performance - ZHIYINHAO which is being prepared and is coming soon in Wuhan as an example, its creativity is that dancing is used to show the landscape of Wuhan during the period of the Republic of China, which is a result of performance and also greatly publicize Wuhan.

  Thirdly, the cultural implication contained in tourist commodities will be deeply explored to break through the practice of only selling commodities and give different cultural significance to commodities. The style of tourist commodities will be carefully studied and provided with creative design, with the aim to raise the artistic and commemorative quality of commodities. The construction of marketing environment of tourist commodities will be heightened and the experience of functional products similar to those in supermarkets will be altered, promoting the formation of cultural and interactive experience. Taking a series of special tourist commodities with the brand of "Wuhan Gift" as an example, the creative design and production will be adopted to blend the tag of Wuhan into products, and these commodities are popular with tourists.

  Fourthly, the unique cultural significance of festivals and special events will be deeply studied and extracted, and for different themes of each festival and special event, the corresponding creative activities will be designed and the degree of participation of the public will be increased, e.g. Wuhan Yangtze River Crossing Festival, Wuhan Marathon and Wuhan National Tourism Festival. The tourism festivals and events are the important carriers of spreading tourism brands and images and are also the important means of stimulating tourist consumption and spurring tourism consumption. The integration of creative design and tourism festivals and events can make tourism festivals and events more natural and more wonderful.

  Fifthly, the connection with travel agencies will be strengthened and the mature creativity is designed to be tourist products and blended into the tourist route, so as to attract tourists for sightseeing. For example, Chengdu integrates 21 cultural and creative resources of importance to launch the Chengdu excellent tourism route of culture and creativity, and Wuhan will also combine special streets and theme parks based on creative design, including Hangyangzao Arts District, Wuhan Haichang Polar Ocean World and Happy Valley, etc., to launch Wuhan excellent tourism route which is popular with tourists.

  In a word, the integration between the creative design industry and the tourism industry plays a positive and significant role in the development of these two industries. The integration and development of these two industries can expand the scope of tourism resources, extend the chain of tourism industry and improve the cultural significance of tourist products, bringing new vigor and vitality into the sustainable development of tourism industry. Simultaneously, the integration and development of both industries can also better realize industrialization, marketization and popularization of creative design.
