Release time:2017-11-05 21:57

From Ar. Maria Jose de Freitas (Macao)

Ar. Maria Jose de Freitas, Member of ICOMOS Scientific Committee on Shared Built Heritage

Principal Architect/CEO of AE TEC-MO Architecture & Engineering Ltd.

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the Wuhan Municipality for its inclusion in UNESCO's network of creative cities. As a meeting point of several civilizations over the centuries, the city has been able to maintain creativity in finding new spaces for dialogue and expansion. The wise participation and intercommunication of ideas and objectives allows for making it an example of participation to follow.

The role of urban design joining together past and present is a lesson for the future, allowing the young generations to learn new practices. The respect of the existent and vernacular situations incorporating new structures gives a new meaning to the different city layers, making the public space more rich and comprehensive.

In Wuhan we can feel this creative potential when crossing its neighbourhoods, plazas, streets, or just walking along the river, where old traditions and new strategies have meeting points increasing the quality of life of the populations and upgrading its sense of belonging.

Being an economic and commercial hub since the past the city is actually a milestone in the crossroads of culture, creativity and design!
