Over the past few years, a number of outstanding original animations produced in Wuhan have won various awards at home and abroad including the top prize in China’s animation industry “Monkey King Award” and “Golden Dragon Award”, and many works were elected national recommended outstanding animations.

  Three animated TV series and films of Jiangtong Animation, Heaven Pig, Lucky Star and 1911 of the People, were broadcast on CCTV and in national cinemas, winning the “Monkey King Award” and China’s Top Ten Best Cartoon Image Award. After being identified as the national cultural industry demonstration base and the national animation industry base, Jiangtong Animation later won the great honor of key animation enterprise granted by the Ministry of Culture, enjoying a higher reputation in the industry.   In 2011, two animation films produced in Wuhan made a grand debut in national cinemas. Jiangtong Animation’s1911 of the People which is known as the province’s first animated film cinema marked by screening in cinemas,putting an end to the province’s history without animations. Maya Animations Brave Rabbit was screened in 1,300 cinemasacross the country, sounding the first horn that the first 3D animation produced in Wuhan was screened in national cinemas, marking a new leap of the city’s animation in production level and business mode. At the same time, animated TV series produced in Wuhan continue to extend its strong vitality. EE Animation’s animated TV series Vegetables Are Not Lonely was broadcast on CCTV during the golden week in October; Yindu Culture’s animated TV series Jianghu in the House was broadcast on CCTV on the New Year’s eve of 2012, which continued to spread joy and influence in the new year; Dongni Culture’s animated TV series Secrets of Childhood was broadcast on CCTV’s News and Science Cartoon Channel. Wuhan Digital Media’s animated TV series Story of Confucius, Purun Media’s animated TV series Wangwang, the Dog with Docked Tail and Campus Company’s animated TV series Valley of the Yetis were successfully broadcast on domestic satellite television channels and local TV channels, respectively.While promoting the original animation, the Association has actively promoted the exploration of the business mode and artistic innovation and organized Shengtai Media to cooperate with performance companies in Wuhan to successfully create 3D stage play Art’s Adventure, which was performed for more than 100 times inside and outside the province, gaining enthusiastic response and great popularity.   At present, the city’s nearly 10 animated films and more than 20 animated TV series are actively developed, and we will continue to usher in the splendidness and surprise of new animation works produced in Wuhan in the next 2-3 years.

  In terms of publication and distribution of comic books, comic originality and publication and distributionare an important part of the animation industry chain, and are also the foundation and conditionto ensure and reflect the original level. Publication of animation books in Wuhan rapidly develops and leads the industry. It is also renowned overseas, serving as one of the important supports for the animation industry in Wuhan. The monthly amount of distribution of the comic magazine COMIC GUESTS reached 6.5 million copies, ranking the world’s second; Yindu Culture’s comic monthly Tao Comics and the comic literature original platform periodical Top Inference are selling well across the country and gain a steady growth in the amount of distribution. In addition, Cat Warrior which was successfully introduced by Jingu Legend Culture has become one of the best-selling children’s books on the market.

  In the aspect of game development and operation, the field of game is one of the important aspects for the Association to promote the “ACG”development strategy.After several years of development, the R&D level of the city’s online games, chess games and mobile games continues to increase, the market share continues to expand, the competitive capacity continues to enhance and the operation mode continues to improve, gradually reaching the high-end level of R&D and operation of games.

  Super Online’s Super Basketball, Juwang Science’s DOCO, Tianfu Network’s Permanent Base, Jiuyi Information’s Vengeance on Evil, Yuzhile Information’s Q-General Water Margin, Diandi Imagination’s Scroll of Immortals and a number of network client, web and mobile games produced in Wuhan entered the main channels for game distribution and operation. Web portals of Super Online’s network games and 265G web games reached the leading level at home in the same industry.

  In terms of the use of new media and digital creativity, BORUNTONG’s worksBotanicula won the silver prize of the 6th China Original Mobile Animation Game Competition.   In 2013: Development of animation industry in Wuhan

  In 2013, Wuhan animation industry forged ahead and developed against the trend, the industry scale continued to expand, masterpiece and well-known brands sprung up, the business mode exploration made new progress, Wuhan’s “Big Animation”industrial ecological system construction took its initial shape and the overall strength of rankedthe forefront in the country, reflecting the latest achievements of development of Wuhan’s animation industry in a centralized way, marking Wuhan’s animation game industry upgraded to a new level, which has become a genuine important national animation game industry base.

  It plays an important role in promoting the development of Wuhan’s cultural creative industry and cultural and technological integration.

  (I) Industry scale continued to grow. In 2013, Wuhan’s animation industryexperienced a complex international situation and the domestic economic downward pressure to increase the adverse environment, but it still maintained a strong momentum of development anddeveloped against the trend.In 2013, the industry-wide gross output reached nearly 50 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 25%. 23 animated TV series were produced all year round, totaling 8971 minutes, with a year-on-year increase of 1.5 times, of which 15 animated TV series were broadcast on CCTV, local TV stations and new media, and 2 animated films were produced and 1 animated film signed a contract with overseas cinemas. Comic periodicals published and distributed for more than 100 million copies with a total sales income of nearly 10 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of country’s total, and ranking first in China, which now continues to lead the development of Chinese original comic periodicals.With the continuous improvement in the development and operation level of online games, more than 20 web games, mobile games and chess games produced in Wuhan entered the channel for game promotion and operation, achieving an annual sales revenue of about 300 million yuan all year round. Engineering animation and VIRTUAL technology applications achieved an annual sales revenue of about 600 million yuan, and the market shares in urban planning, digital exhibition, simulation, digital education and digital entertainment continued to grow.In addition, new media animation achieveda sales revenue of nearly 100 million yuan in 2013 year, seeing a good start.

In 2013, the annual output of 5 member enterprises exceeded 100 million yuan, of which the annual sales revenue of Zhiyin Animation was nearly 1 billion yuan; Yindu Culture and Yintong Culture and Education were listed on “NEEQ”, achieving the zero breakthrough in the securities market of Wuhan’s animation creative enterprise.At present, Wuhan has a national animation industry base 1, 4 national cultural industry demonstration bass, 3 national key animation enterprises, 19 state-level animation enterprises, 26 cultural industry demonstration bases in Hubei Province, about 200 animation originality and related enterprises and more than 10,000 practitioners, covering main links of the animation creative industry. In addition, Wuhan’s animation creative industry withstood the test in the fierce market competition and industry reshuffle and enhanced the quality, and now is on the road to rapid,sound, high-end development.

  (IV) Animated films and TV seriesare magnificent. In 2013,4 original animated TV series, that is, Jiangtong Animation’s clay sculpture animated TV seriesBiscuits Detective 2 andDon’t be Naughty, Little Pig!, Dahai Information’s Animation Learning Method, Yimeihui Culture’s The Bean Mouse, were broadcast on CCTV, and the animated TV series Botanicula: Return to Sail Wisdom Valley which was produced in 2012 by BORUNTONG was also broadcast on CCTV during the prime time. 8 original animated TV series, that is, Mandi Animation’s Tank Story, Haohan Animation’s Candy Tiger, EE Animation’s Adventures of Vegetable Elves, Vegetable Kingdom and Sunflower, Zhitu Culture’s Boy Legend—Battle in Lucky Island, Purun Media’s Dogwith Docked Tail—Run the Crab and Candy English were broadcast on each local TV stations. In addition, 3 original animated TV series, that is, Zhiyin Animation’s Heart Stealer September Q and Story of Orange and 2.10’s Filiality and Law were broadcast on network video channels. Maya Animation’s 3D animated film Brave Rabbit 2 signed a contract with Korean cinemas and US TV stations, which was scheduled to be screened in 2014. In 2013, animation “produced in Wuhan”yielded unusually brilliant results in Chinese cinemas.

  (V) Original cartoon leads China. In 2013, Wuhan’s comic periodicals continued to leadthe country in publication and distribution, forming a rapid growth trend with Zhi Media, Yindu Culture and other comic publication and distribution enterprises as the main body. The total amount of publication and distribution of comic books in Wuhanexceeded 100 million copies, which continued to maintain China’s leading position.The monthly amount of distribution of COMIC Guests reached nearly 7 million copies with a total sales volume of 923 million yuan, and the annual amount of distribution reached more than 78 million copies, with an increase of 15% over 2012, which continued to lead the country and ranked the world’s second for two years in a row. The series products can be divided into four categories, including comic books, cartoon books, novels (including magazines) and so on, and the total amount of distribution reached up to 30 million copies, as a result of which it becomes the most influential well-known brand in terms of comic periodicals in China. YinduCulture’s comic magazine Tao Comicsgathered a large number of loyal fans, and the overall size of the market continued to expand.Chutian’s Shangmanwas designed to build China’s largest news and animation original production base, release more than 1800 original news and animated works all year round and make the multimedia comprehensive hits exceed 5 million, so as to effectively explore the theme, which promotes the road of development integrating innovation and market demands and economic and social benefits.

  (VI) Online games are developing steadily.Wuhan’s online games show a steady growth trend, of which over 20 game products produced in Wuhan, that is, Jiuyi Information’s web game EnchantingOdyssey, Hero Plan and Vengeance on Evil 2, SP Online’sMythical Three Kingdoms, Magic Basketball andPointing the Martial World, Juwang Science’s Core of Authou, Tianfu Network’s Game of the Grandmaster, Xuanyou Network’s Leisure in Shushan, Zhitu Culture’s Link Game of Lucky Boy and Lucky Boy POP, Lingkong Network’s DYING: Sinner Escape, Rolling Lion and Yes or No, Diandi Online’s Warm-blooded Cutie and Vietnamese Version of Scroll of Immortals, Yuzhile’s Q-General Water Margin, Finger Water Margin and Pocket Water Margin, entered the main channels for release and operation of web games, mobile games and chess games.As of the end of 2013, there were about 40 game enterprises in Wuhan and nearly 1000 employees, with a total annual revenue of nearly 300 million yuan.
