[8.10]Wuhan's City of Design Roundtable

  In the afternoon of November 13, 2016, a roundtable meeting on Wuhan's application to become a City of Design was held at the Wuhan Conference center. Liu Yingzi, deputy mayor of Wuhan Municipal Government met Francesco Bandarin, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, along with other experts from home and abroad, and listened to their advice on Wuhan's application to become a City of Design.

  The delegation led by Francesco Bandarin arrived in Wuhan on November 12th. They visited East Lake, Chu River and Han Street, James Jackson Museum newly built at the Tanhualin Historic Street Block, Big House Industrial Heritage, Hankou Yangtze River Beach, Lihuangpi Road and Zhongshan Avenue renovation project, Changjiang Civilization Museum, etc. A visit to the Wuhan City Planning Exhibition in Wuhan Citizens Home and a report on the East Lake Greenway project were also included in the schedule. Both Chinese and foreign experts gained deeper insight into the distinctive history and culture of Wuhan, making constructive suggestions on the city’s efforts to get the designation.

  Relevant leaders from the municipal government and City of Design (Wuhan) Promotion Office, as well as Niu Xinqiang, well-known academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Guo Emei, Vice Chairman of municipal CPPCC, Jin Zhihong, Director of Wuhan City of Design Promotion Center introduced their preparation work in details and highlighted the city’s uniqueness in terms of culture, tourism and design.

  Mr. Louis González Arena from Mexico, Mr.Wei Xia from the Secretariat of National Commission of China for UNESCO, Mr. Chen Dongliang, Director of Beijing Industrial Design Center, Mr. He Shouchang, Director of Shanghai Promotion Center for City of Design, and Mr. Han Wangxi, Deputy Director of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department shared the experience of Puebla, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen in successfully obtaining the designation as a City of Design.
