Dreaming of Being a Great City, Looking Back on Design - Wuhan 2016 Annual Design Release Ceremony

  On December 24th of 2016, the "Dreaming of Being a Great City, Looking Back on Design - Wuhan 2016 Annual Design Release Ceremony" was held in the James Jackson Museum, also known as "the Living Room of Wuhan City of Design".

  Sponsored jointly by Wuhan Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department and Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Committee (Wuhan City of Design Application Office), the ceremony was held by Wuhan City of Design Promotion Center. At the ceremony, over 10 outstanding design works that involve the city, engineering, architecture, landscape, vision, art, clothing, animation, jewelry, industries, and advertisement are presented. These works, including Zhongshan Avenue Renovation Plan, Ma'anshan Yangtze River Bridge Engineering Design, Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Museum, and East Lake Greenway, reveal Wuhan's strength in design.

  According to the sponsors, this ceremony is not only an important part of Wuhan's endeavor to apply to become a city of design, but also a platform where the design community in Wuhan collectively present itself for the first time. At the ceremony, the design and creativity industries in Wuhan jointly declared Wuhan's application to become a city of design.

  Wuhan is strong in the design and creativity industries. The ceremony revealed this strength through the presentation of a large number of competitive design works. For instance, Zhongshan Avenue Renovation Plan won the ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) Awards for Excellence; Ma'anshan Yangtze River Bridge Engineering Design won the 2016 International Bridge Conference George S. Richardson Medal; Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Museum was included in Dezeen's Top Ten Public Buildings of 2016.
