　　The art discipline of College of Art and Design of Wuhan Textile University (the "College") was founded as early as in the beginning of 1980s and is one of the earliest colleges that set up art design in central China.

　　Upon development of over thirty years, the College has gradually developed a set of its own education concept, college-running characteristics and teaching system, has a team of "double qualified teachers" who are dedicated and innovative and has established good reputation and brand image across China. The College of Art and Design now offers one undergraduate program: design science. It includes six concentrations: fiber art design, visual communication art design, environmental art design, public art design, investment on and appreciation of artwork, product design. Of which, the art design major is national characteristic major, and design science is key discipline of Hubei Province and advantageous characteristic discipline group of Hubei Province.

　　The College of Art and Design is dominated by contemporary art and design ideas, bases on the traditional cultural spirit of China and pays attention to thick foundation of the discipline, cross-discipline and the integration of the following eight aspects: integration of design education and art, integration of design education and innovative thinking, integration of design education and humanistic spirit of China, integration of design education and thick foundations of the discipline, integration of design education and non-intellectual factors, integration of design education and technology, integration of design education and hands-on skills and practical ability and integration of design education and innovation ability. The College endeavors to set up the talents cultivation system that comprehensively cultivates their thinking ability, hands-on ability, practical ability and innovation ability.

　　In recent years, the College has made remarkable achievements in research on art creation and teaching research. The teaching research project Research on Reform and Practices of Art Design Education and Teaching Under Background of Creative Industries has won first prize of Hubei Province for teaching achievements in 2008 and the project Construction and Practice of Creative and Productive Design Talents Cultivation Platform has won second prize of Hubei Province for teaching achievements in 2012.Its environment design artworks have won the Excellence Award of National Art Exhibition. The College now has seven national level projects which are ongoing. Two of them are sponsored by National Social Science Fund, one is sponsored by China National Arts Fund, one is cultural art research project of the Ministry of Culture of PRC and three are humanities and social science research projects of the Ministry of Education. The College has published more than 20 monographs and textbooks.

　　It now has 64 faculty members, including 5 professors, 31 associate professors and 23 supervisors of postgraduate. It has 5 distinguished professors of Chutian Scholars, one Chutian Student and two distinguished professors employed from both at home and abroad. The College now has nearly 200 postgraduate students. The College has been always attaching high importance to creating the academic atmosphere and actively develops various large research and innovation activities in recent years. In the recent five years, the College has successively held fiber art exhibition in University of California at Davis, Sino-USA Design Work Exhibition and other high-level major academic exhibition and exchange activities both at home and abroad. The College has tapped creative design talents for art design education and industry, promoted dialogue between the higher learning institutions and industries and set up a high-level international exchange platform for design of China. The College has actively participated in a series of academic exhibition in recent years and successively organized some academic seminars, such as the national annual award forum of environmental art design and international symposium of China-Korea fashion industry, forcefully promoting the academic research of Wuhan Textile University and enhancing its influences in Central South China and across China.
