National Center for Cultural Innovation Research in Wuhan University

  In April 21, 2009, the Center for Cultural Innovation Research in Wuhan University is officially named as the "National Center for Cultural Innovation Research" with the approval of the Ministry of Culture (W.K.J.H. No.[2009]603), and becomes the first research base of “National Cultural Innovation Project" among universities nationwide. It will actively explore in order to strengthen the theoretical study of cultural innovation, and constantly promote the construction of national cultural innovation system, and strive to explore ways and means to promote cultural development and prosperity.

  The "National Center for Cultural Innovation Research" adopts the operating mechanism of "co-building by the school and ministry, open construction, and combination of full-time and part-time staff", which is under the unified leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Wuhan University, and cobuilt by the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture. Relying on the rich cultural resources and practical experience in Hubei, and the multi-disciplinary advantages of Wuhan University, its main responsibilities and basic tasks are: organize research on basic theory of cultural innovation and related issues, providing theoretical support for the cultural innovation and development of China; train all kinds of cultural innovation professionals, providing talent guarantee for our cultural innovation system construction; offer policy consultation and information services, providing think tank support for state and government departments at all levels; pay attention to the process of international cultural innovation, development and research, and establish a platform for academic exchanges between China and foreign countries; pay close attention to the forefront of cultural innovation theory in China and undertake the task of cultural innovation research distributed by the state and local government departments.

  In order to build a high-level national team of cultural innovation research, and serve the development of cultural undertakings and reform of cultural system in China, the National Center for Cultural Innovation Research aims at building a multi-level academic team, with the Academic Committee as the core, and the full-time research team as the main body. It gives full play to the comprehensive advantages of the complete range of disciplines and the strong interdisciplinary of Wuhan University, and has established an interdisciplinary comprehensive research platform with the support of the "Project 985" development program of Wuhan University. It has signed a cooperation agreement with 15 professors and off-campus scholars from the Economics and Management School, School of Political Science and Public Administration, College of Chinese Language & Literature, School of Law, School of History, International School of Software, School of Journalism and Communication as well as Department of Sociology and Department of Arts, and established project cooperation with colleagues in the national cultural heritage system. It has not only independently cultivated a number of young and middle-aged scientific research backbones on the discipline frontier, but also vigorously introduced well-known experts and scholars in the field of cultural research at home and abroad to jointly build an interdisciplinary, diversified and complex academic research team. And it has undertaken more than 10 national research projects.

  Serving the needs of economic, social and cultural construction is the starting point for the Ministry of Culture and Wuhan University to support the establishment of the National Center for Cultural Innovation Research. With the support of the relevant functional departments of the school, the advantages of co-building by the school and ministry, and the characteristics of Wuhan University (it’s a century-old prestigious institute located in the central hinterland with comprehensive disciplines in arts, science and engineering), the National Center for Cultural Innovation Research tries to build a cross-disciplinary, material and high-level cultural innovation research platform, and strives to build the research center into a national first-class research base for public cultural policy and cultural industry, which is leading in the central region and has great influence internationally".
