The 1st Wuhan Design Biennale
On November 11th of 2011, the 1st Wuhan Design Biennale and Art City Forum were held in Wuhan Art Museum. The events lasted 20 days and ended on November 30th of 2011. The "biennale" and "forum" complemented each other. As the largest design exhibition Wuhan has ever witnessed, the biennale and forum attracted wide attention from the engineering, business, design, and art communities both at home and abroad, as well as from Wuhan's people. The events had been continuously reported by the media, greatly promoting the image of Wuhan as a city and displaying Wuhan's deep-rooted culture. Moreover, the events showed Wuhan's strength in the design industry and laid a foundation for building Wuhan Design Biennale into a well recognized cultural brand, allowing Wuhan to take one step forward to becoming "a City of Engineering Design".

The 2nd Wuhan Design Biennale
On November 8th of 2013, the 2nd Wuhan Design Biennale under the theme "City of Art" was held at the Tanhualin Historic Street Block. Adopting the "exhibition + forum" model, this biennale set several records in terms of the quantity of exhibits and the number of visitors. At the 22-day biennale, design exhibitions under multiple themes, lectures delivered by design experts, and theme day events were also held.

The 3rd Wuhan Design Biennale
The 3rd Wuhan Design Biennale was held at the Star of Optical Valley, CSECE and other two venues from December 8th to 21st of 2015. Under the theme of "craftsmanship & beautiful city", which implies engineering accuracy and the beauty of Wuhan, the biennale is designed to stimulate innovation, provoke thoughts about design, and encourage people to carry forward the spirit of craftsmanship. The biennale would unfold the history of Wuhan's development from the perspective of its citizens through exquisite works of fine art that were transformed from historical pictures and engineering drawings. It would also display the achievements that Wuhan has made in urban development and the development of art during its urbanization.

The biennale consists of three parts: design exhibition, forum, and integrative activity. Being at the core of Wuhan Design Biennale, the design exhibition is composed of six sections, namely, "History · Inheritance", "Strength · Contemporary", "Leader · Future", "Vitality · Folk", "Foreign Land · Symphony", and "Prosperity · Rising Star". According to statistics, about 450 works were exhibited.
