Release time:2017-08-05 12:24

Sponsored by China Light Industry Federation and China Ceramics Industrial Association, 2016 "Design China"- the 3rd China Contemporary Ceramic Design Competition was held at Wuhan University of Technology on November 18th of 2016.

The competition is designed to increase the communication between schools and between schools and enterprises, facilitate interdisciplinary cooperation, encourage ceramics to present itself in various forms of art, and serve as an opportunity for people to discuss the relationship between the development of ceramics and the daily lives and social progress of humans, so that ceramic art will thrive.

There are two gold medal winners at this competition. One is Zhang Yuwen, a student from Tsinghua University. His works "Ci Mu Qv (lit. Concerto of Porcelain and Wood)" (see the picture below) is a set of modern style ceramic teaware. He designed a flat base for the teapot and exquisite curves for the pot body and teacups, which has been approved of unanimously by the 6 judges. According to Prof. Pan Changxue, one of the judges and Dean of the School of Art and Design at Wuhan University of Technology, in recent decades the focus of ceramics in China has shifted gradually from practical utility to art. Under the theme of "Language of Porcelain -- A New Language for Dialogue with China's Ceramic Design", this competition aims at allowing ceramic design to re-focus on practical utility in daily lives by using modern design language so as to serve people. Zhang Yuwen's works is a perfect response to this purpose. His design not only reflects Chinese culture, but also looks modern. Moreover, the way he handles details is very mature.
